Arthrosamid Knee Specialist Assessment

Arthrosamid® Treatment FAQ

Arthrosamid® is a non-biodegradable polyacrylamide hydrogel. Unlike steroid or hyaluronic acid injections which are eventually absorbed by the body, Arthrosamid stays in the knee joint to provide permanent cushioning and long-term pain relief.

Clinical data shows that a single injection of Arthrosamid® can provide sustained, clinically meaningful pain relief for at least 3 years in many patients. It is designed as a long-lasting, non-biodegradable alternative to repeated steroid cycles or hyaluronic acid injections, with 5-year data also being presented to suggest even longer durability.

Precision is vital for Arthrosamid®. We use live ultrasound guidance to ensure the hydrogel is delivered precisely into the intra-articular space. This ensures 100% accuracy and maximizes the effectiveness of the treatment.

Yes. For many patients with mild to moderate (and in some cases, severe) knee osteoarthritis, Arthrosamid® can delay or provide an alternative to knee replacement surgery by reducing chronic pain and improving function, with effects sustained for up to 3 to 5 years.

The procedure is very tolerable. We use a local anaesthetic to numb the area, and because we use ultrasound guidance, we can navigate the needle with minimal discomfort to the surrounding tissues.

We recommend relative rest for 48 hours following the procedure. While you can drive home and resume light activities, you should avoid heavy exercise or high-impact sports for at least a few days while the gel settles.

Hyaluronic acid is a biological substance that the body breaks down within 6–9 months. Arthrosamid is non-biodegradable, meaning it does not wash away, offering a much more permanent solution for arthritis management.

Yes. We offer a "One-Stop" service. Following your specialist consultation and diagnostic scan, if you are a suitable candidate, we can perform the Arthrosamid® injection during the same 45-minute appointment.
